Sunny Side Up

‘Sunny Side Up’ is a short documentary which dives into Melbourne’s colourful and thriving music scene.
The documentary was produced to accompany the release of the compilation it shares the name with, ‘Sunny Side Up’ which came out via Gilles Peterson’s ‘Brownswood Recordings’ label.
Featuring collectives such as Mandarin Dreams & 30/70, amongst other talented artists the compilation is a solid blend of jazz, funk, soul, R&B, house, samba & hip hop.

We filmed the documentary over a series of weeks - during the back-to-back recording sessions at ‘The Grove’ studio in Coburg, we then followed artists around to their rehearsals & shows and hung out at their homes.

Stylistically we decided to approach this with project with a touch of the classic 8mm film look, to capture the intimate feelings of a home video, as if we are looking into something personal, echoing the notion that Melbourne’s musician scene
is in fact that – an intimate grass roots community.
